Description
High Falls in DuPont forest , Appalachia, NC. A 125ft. waterfall in Transylvania county, the land of waterfalls. Impressive at a distance, a captivating natural water feature deserving of preservation. Unfortunately, a closer look at the source of the waterfall being the river itself reveals, like most of the rivers in this country, the ill effects of impervious surface pollution from our population centers / agriculture / industry, channeling toxicity directly into the water table without filtration resulting in murky instead of clear water where once green now gives way to browns turning what was once a revitalizing and beautiful river into something toxic and ugly. Not pristine but not as bad as Linville falls NC which was nasty and a tragic waste of an awesome landscape. More should be done on a national scale to address a solution to the impervious surface pollution that has ruined most of the rivers in America. Eco safe chemical reform and filtration of existing drainage infrastructure are some ideas. People should have respect for our natural resources that make life worth living to preserve biodiversity as well as the quality and experience of life.
